Top 5 Flooring questions and answers

Today, we’re going to discuss the top 5 most asked flooring questions, and have our Gowdy Flooring pros answer them for you!
1. What’s the average lifespan of a carpet installation?
Honestly, it all boils down to the quality of your carpeting. The highest-grade fibers will last, on average, between 15 and 25 years, while the least expensive, super-basic type will last around 1 to 5 years. In the middle range, however, you should be able to get 5 to 15 years out of your carpets.
2. Can I change the color of my hardwood floors?
Yes, believe it or not, you can! Very often, homeowners have no idea they can change the color of their hardwood whenever they want. Having said that, it does take a professional team to completely sand and varnish your floors to do so, a job that can take weeks or months depending upon the scope of the project. Nonetheless, in doing so, you can go either lighter or darker in tone.
3. Can you lay porcelain tile without grout lines?
No, absolutely not, and you should never attempt to do so, unless you want your installation to end up a disaster. Without grout, your tiles will rub against each other, chipping and cracking in the process. In this instance, it doesn’t matter if we’re talking about a floor, wall or backsplash installation, as you should never skip the grout for any reason.
4. Does natural stone crack easily?
Though very durable and sturdy, without proper care your stone tiles or counters are susceptible to damage, and cracking is one of them. So, while tiles don’t normally crack easily, they do indeed need regular, proper maintenance with the use of approved products.
5. Can I install luxury vinyl in a mudroom?
When it comes to mudrooms, luxury vinyl is indeed a great, affordable option. A hard-wearing, attractive material, it can withstand a rugged, well-used environment. It’s also virtually maintenance-free and, depending upon the quality, scratch-resistant.
