Is luxury vinyl flooring waterproof?

Is luxury vinyl flooring waterproof?

Yes. It would not be easy to find something that offers so many benefits and so much value for the decorating dollar as luxury vinyl (LVF), and that capability is just one of many.

Waterproof vs. water-resistant

When something is impenetrable to liquid, it is constructed with 100% waterproof materials, such as vinyl. There are no special coatings, so the capability is inherent. When it's resistant, however, it means that it repels for a short time and, unless wiped right away, the liquid will break through the barriers and soak the core.

Other benefits include:

1. Style: This offers nature-inspired, true-to-life images of wood, stone, and tile, all taken with high-definition photography. They are clear and vibrant, displaying knots, grains, swirls, and veining variations. The colors and patterns are brilliant and pop.

Micro beveling and embossing add depth, dimension, and textured features for added realism. Even more, this product can be cut into strips and mounted on boards called luxury vinyl plank or cut into square-tile-sized pieces called luxury vinyl tile.

2. Affordability: Both LVP and LVT are so realistic that some flooring experts have trouble discerning them. You'll know, though, when you go to pay because it won't be nearly the same price as genuine materials.

3. Durability: This is a multi-layered product, five times thicker than the original vinyl. It comes with a top transparent, strong melamine wear sheet that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs. On top of that is a clear urethane finish that provides extra strength and shine.

4. Low maintenance: It needs regular sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid waxy, shine-promoting cleaners as they can damage the finish and dull the floor.

5. Uncomplicated installation happens via the floating floor technique where the pieces click, mat, and hover over the subfloor.
