For nearly two years now, the economic index for Amarillo has been in decline. A recent report states that that downward trend has finally turned around. The turnaround numbers are not great, but they are positive, and that is good news for our city and our economy. The following is just a short portion of that report:
“An unexpected surprise popped up as the November Midland-Odessa Regional Economic Index was being calculated: It turned positive, ending a 21-month streak of declines. Even so, the index came in 9.7 percent below November 2015’s figures. “I was not quite prepared for that,” said Karr Ingham, the Amarillo economist who prepares the index for the Midland Development Corp.”
