How to care for your new hardwood flooring installation

It's been a busy season for Amarillo floors this Spring, and that means a whole lot of you out there are standing on new floors, and wondering how to take care of them. We get it! You just paid a sizable amount of money to invest in those floors, and it only makes sense that you would wonder how best to protect that investment!
A lot of people think that hardwood floors are difficult to maintain, but that couldn't be further from the truth. In reality, there are just a few basic things you need to do to keep them looking great for years to come. Here's what you need to know:
Keep them dry!
Water is easily one of the most detrimental things that can happen to the wood floors of your Amarillo home. It can cause your floors to warp, buckle, separate, crack and worse. So, it's important to make sure that you quickly and thoroughly deal with any liquids that hit the floor, to avoid damaging the floors.
Obviously, you are probably wondering what this means for mopping. You do need to mop your floors for deep cleaning. Just always make sure the mop is well-wrung, and that you dry the floors as quickly as possible. You could also use a microfiber mop to minimize the need for liquid.
You might also consider putting down waterproof mats in areas where water tends to accumulate or get tracked in. If nothing else, one in front of any sinks, and one by each door that leads outdoors, should do the trick.
Sweeping
The second major risk to the wood floors in your Amarillo home comes from abrasion. Gritty dirt, sand, and detritus from outside gets tracked onto your floors, and is then dragged around as people walk through the home. This causes small abrasions that gradually wear down the luster and finish of your floors, until they eventually require re-sanding. The best way to combat this is to make a quick pass through the house with a broom or vacuum every day. If you use a vacuum, always make sure the beater brush is disengaged, or you could do serious damage to you Amarillo home's nice new wood floors!
