Q: We’re thinking about installing luxury vinyl in our kitchen, but we’re not sure if we should go with tiles or planks. Is there one that’s better than the other for this type of installation?

A: In short, no type's better, per se. Mostly, it all comes down to which one you prefer for your renovation project. The only difference between vinyl tiles and planks is the shape of the flooring. The quality is the same with either option, assuming you compare equally high-quality installations. If you're having trouble choosing between the two, then we recommend coming to the showroom to view both alternatives and have a flooring professional give you the run-down of their unique features.

Q: We just had new carpeting installed a few weeks ago and had our first major spill – grape juice! Can you suggest what we should do to avoid permanent stains?

A: Without exception, maintenance is a major factor in preserving your carpeting to ensure they last for decades to come. In short, it's best if you call our showroom directly since we'll need to know what type of carpeting you have to help you out. However, should any spill or mishaps occur, the first thing to do is clean it up immediately to avoid potential stains. Then, give us a call and speak to one of our carpet care consultants and they'll talk you through what needs to be done next. They'll also be able to assess if you'll require professional carpet cleaning.

Q: My husband is convinced he can install hardwood flooring in our bedroom on his own. He’s a handyman with a lot of DIY experience but has never actually installed hardwood floors before. Would you say it’s a fairly straightforward project or is it a must to hire professional installers?

A: In all honesty, a hardwood flooring installation is no small feat. Not only does it require the right kind of tools and equipment, but it's also essential to have the knowledge and experience to ensure a proper installation. Do yourself – and your husband – a favor and call professional installers. Hardwood flooring installation is their specialty and what they do day-in and day-out, so you're assured quick, correct placement.

Q: I like natural stone and want to have it installed in my bathroom, but I'm worried about the upkeep. Is it relatively easy to maintain or will I need specialized products to clean it?

A: Maintenance for natural stone is quite simple. Use a clean, dry microfiber mop to dust the area every couple of days or so. Damp mopping once to twice a week will preserve your stone and prolong its lifespan. You can use a neutral pH detergent and warm water for cleaning. After mopping the floors, make sure to rinse and dry the surface with a soft, clean cloth. Avoid ammonia-based cleaners or abrasive products as it can damage the stone. When in doubt, give us a call and we’ll advise you on what to do!
