More flooring questions and answers

At Gowdy Flooring, we always take the time to answer common questions we get in our showroom or via our website. Here are a few of the latest questions we’ve received that may provide you with the answers you’re looking for.

Q: I’m interested in white carpet, but I have young kids. Do any carpet brands offer stain-resistance?

A: All carpets have stain resistant capabilities, although some have more than others. Typically, carpets come with it directly from the manufacturer. However, should you prefer to have a higher degree of stain resistance, you can certainly request additional protection. That’s an easy fix!

Q: Can I install long hardwood planks in a small space?

A: Yes, you can install them in any room you would like. However, design-wise, this may not be your best option. In essence, it all boils down to balance. Normally, you should select a slat size that matches the proportions of your reno space. Wide slats in small rooms tend to make the area look awkward. If you need help figuring out what to choose, come on into our Amarillo, TX showroom and we’d be glad to help you out.

Q: Which type of tile can I use in my mudroom?

A: Actually, you can use pretty much any tile you’d like, be it ceramic or porcelain. Either one makes for an excellent, durable, easy-to-clean installation – which is something that you really need in a mudroom.

Q: Is it true that natural stone stains easily?

A: Since stone is a porous, natural material, it is susceptible to staining. As such, it does need to be resealed regularly. Having said that, it really does all depend on what type of stone you choose for your home. Our showroom professionals can go over the specifics of every stone tile we carry, so it’s best to come in to get a more detailed answer.

Q: Does luxury vinyl flooring crack?

A: In the event that luxury vinyl flooring is not installed properly, yes, it can crack. This sometimes happens when there is a problem with the underlayment or subfloor. That’s why we always recommend hiring professional installers for new flooring installations and skipping the DIY projects.
